EUROPEAN UNION - The European Commission (EC) is considering proposed regulation on bisphenol A (BPA) as created by individual Member State laws and specifying a new specific migration limit (SML) after a European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) opinion in January lowered the Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI) from 50 to 4 μg/kg bw – a temporary (t-TDI).
The EC is considering the following for their proposed regulation:
- No policy change
- Restriction of BPA in plastic food contact materials
- Restriction and introduction of measures in coating and varnishes
- The two restrictions with additional other food contact materials
- Ban on BPA in food contact materials at EU level
