EC Adds Two New Substances to Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011

November 20, 2013

The European Commission (EC) has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the amendment of Commission Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011, adding two new substances as food contact plastic materials.

The two new substances are:

(a) 2-phenyl-3, 3-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl) phthalimidine - to be used only as a co-monomer in polycarbonate copolymers

(b) 1, 3-bis (isocyanatomethyl) benzene - to be used only as a co-monomer in the manufacture of a middle layer coating on a poly (ethylene terephthalate) polymer film in a multilayer film.

The addition of the two new substances are written in the Draft Commission Regulation that amends and corrects Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food by updating the Union List in Annex I to Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011.
