CPSC Requests Public Consultation for Play Yards With Non-rigid Sides

September 15, 2015

UNITED STATES  ̶  The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has requested a public consultation for the petition issued by Keeping Babies Safe (KBS) asking the CPSC to initiate a rulemaking that bans supplemental mattresses for play yards with non-rigid sides.

These mattresses are currently marketed for use with non-full-size cribs, play yards, portable cribs, and play pens under the Commission's authority, section 8 of the Consumer Product Safety Act (“CPSA”), 15 U.S.C. 2057.

KBS points out that this product presents an unreasonable risk of injury and death to infants, and that no feasible consumer product safety standard would adequately protect infants from the risk associated with the product.

The public consultation on this petition is open until October 13, 2015.
