CPSC Issues Final Rule on Tests for Toy Caps and Toy Guns

December 18, 2013

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a final rule regarding the appropriate testing for caps used with toy guns and toy guns not intended to be used with caps.

According to the Federal Register, the existing guidance for testing is obsolete, particularly with regard to noise calculations. In the future, the CPSC will require that manufacturers comply with the requirements of ASTM F963, "Standard Consumer Safety Specifications for Toy Safety," a current standard which allows for more modern test approaches and equipment.
