On November 26th an amendment to Regulation 429/2008/EC on the preparation and presentation of applications and the assessment and the authorisation of feed additives was released. This amendment comes into force on 27 March 2021.

The amendment includes changes to Article 2 regarding the need for electronic and standardised data formats during the feed additive application process, whilst Annexes I and II are updated to provide further clarity on what is required.

The need for this standardisation has been brought about by the European Commission’s plan to improve transparency and sustainability throughout the food chain. This aim has been achieved in this regulation in conjunction with additional amendments to Regulations 178/2002/EC and 1831/2003/EC as improved transparency is brought to the process of feed additive authorisations.

Adaptations to Regulation 178/2002/EC concerning the preparation and the presentation of application dossiers have also driven these changes, resulting in the same levels of consistency and legal certainty regarding this matter between all the relevant legislation.
