Canada Reduces Impurity Limit for Mercury in Cosmetics

May 13, 2016

Health Canada has reduced its impurity limit for mercury in cosmetics from 3 parts per million (ppm) to 1 ppm.

The updated mercury limit reflects the country’s signing of the UN Minamata Convention on Mercury, a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of mercury, in October 2013.

The update was made on February 29, 2016.
