Canada Closing Toy Testing Council after 63 Years

May 19, 2015

The Canada Toy Testing Council has announced it will close at the end of June 2015 after members were unable to secure financial backing. The council is a private non-profit organization testing toy design, durability, safety and playability through a network of families in the Ottawa region who would take the toys home to be evaluated.

The Testing Council provides the following:

  • Annual pre-Christmas list of top toys and books
  • Release of the ranking of playthings and books by age group for their durability, safety and ability to capture a child's imagination
  • Organization of events that enlist volunteer families to test hundreds of items, from traditional board games to electronic toys
