The Canada Toy Testing Council has announced it will close at the end of June 2015 after members were unable to secure financial backing. The council is a private non-profit organization testing toy design, durability, safety and playability through a network of families in the Ottawa region who would take the toys home to be evaluated.
The Testing Council provides the following:
- Annual pre-Christmas list of top toys and books
- Release of the ranking of playthings and books by age group for their durability, safety and ability to capture a child's imagination
- Organization of events that enlist volunteer families to test hundreds of items, from traditional board games to electronic toys
