California Senate Passes Bill on Flame-Retardant Chemicals in Upholstered Furniture

California Senate has passed Bill Senate Bill No. 1019 regarding upholstered furniture containing flame retardant chemicals.

The bill requires manufacturers to indicate whether the upholstery used in furniture contains flame retardants. It also directs the state bureau overseeing home furnishings to ensure compliance with the labeling requirement and to assess fines for violations. The bill also allows consumers to know which products have been made with and without chemicals.

The bill now moves to the Assembly.
