The Taiwan Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) published public notice that aims to provide and ensure children’s safety in using locally produced and imported raincoats. The Public Notice under the Commodity Inspection Act for Children’s Raincoats Commodities addresses concern over raincoats that were found to exceed allowable limits for phthalate plasticizers and heavy metal contents, as well as cords and drawstrings of hood and neck area.
Proposed chemicals and elements include:
- Phthalates: DMP, DEP, DBP, BBP, DEHP, DNOP, DINP, DIDP
- Heavy metals: Sb, As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, Se
The inspection shall follow the following standards:
- CNS 15503 General requirements for safety of children’s products
- CNS 15291 Safety of children’s clothing, cords and drawstrings on children’s clothing, specifications
The proposed date of implementation of this public notice is on June 1, 2015.
