ASTM Releases Standard for Safety Specification for Sling Carriers

UNITED STATES - The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) has released ASTM F2907 - 15 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Sling Carriers establishing the performance requirements, test methods and marking requirements to promote safe use of sling carriers.

Performance requirements and test methods of sling carriers include static load test, dynamic load test, adhesion test, occupant retention test, and restraint system. The standard also establishes proper markings and labels that should be placed on the sling carriers.

The standard defines a sling carrier as a product of fabric or sewn fabric construction, which is designed to contain a child in an upright or reclined position while being supported by the caregiver’s torso. In general, the child will be between full term birth and 35 lb (15.9 kg).
