The challenge

The customer is a global tier 1 supplier in the automotive industry based in Germany. With more than 200,000 employees and several large acquisitions, the organization is heterogeneously structured with multiple cultures, dependencies and processes. To be able to contribute to shaping the upcoming megatrends in the automotive sector, such as connected and autonomous driving, the company is transforming from a hardware-driven organization to a software company focused on electronics.

During the process of their monumental transformation, the company struggled with development silos, which made it almost impossible for the individual departments to cooperate across business units. This problem led to reduced transparency into aspects such as project status and progress. The organization faces similar challenges as it navigates further growth and strategic acquisitions.

With Stages process management software from UL Solutions Software Intensive Systems, the organization defined a standardized development process that is modular and expandable and compliant with Automotive SPICE®.

Additionally, the company implemented a continuous rollout of integrated process management (PM), application life cycle management (ALM) and product life cycle management (PLM) across all business units. This can be used for companies that are to be integrated.

To improve acceptance of new processes within the organization, all employees in engineering departments received training. The customer decided to keep Stages to support the creation and optimization of future processes as well.
