On Aug. 1, 2022, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA) announced the standard upgrade of two new national standards:

  • GB/T 9254.1-2021 — electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standard
  • GB 4943.1-2022 — safety standard for information technology equipment (ITE), audio/visual (A/V) products and telecommunications equipment

Manufacturers must comply with these new standards in order to launch their products in China.

GB/T 9254.1-2021

Implemented on July 1, 2022, GB/T 9254.1-2021 — the new standard for EMC — replaces the previous standards GB/T 9254- 2008 and GB/T 13837-2012.

This new standard is based on the international standard CISPR 32:2015. Effective July 1, 2022, all new certification applications must comply with the new standard. Existing products that have China Compulsory Certification (CCC) based on the old standard must apply for an update to the new standard.

GB 4943.1-2022

On July 19, 2022, the new mandatory national safety standard GB 4943.1-2022 was issued. It will be adopted for CCC and China Quality Certification Center (CQC) voluntary product certification for ITE, A/V products and telecommunications equipment. The new standard is based on IEC 62368-1:2018 and integrates the original standards GB 4943.1-2011 and GB 8898-2011.

GB 4943.1-2022 is a mandatory national safety standard that provides a basis for relevant government departments to carry out certification and supervision. It provides guidance to product designers for safer design of their products and procedures for testing professionals to conduct testing. This standard will help them to keep up with the pace of technological development, adapt to the needs of product updates and conform with international standards.
