Vietnam Publishes New Formaldehyde and Azo Dye Requirements for Textiles

VIETNAM - The Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade has released a draft circular regulation regarding permitted amounts of formaldehyde and azo dyes in textile products that are manufactured, imported, distributed and sold in Vietnam. The draft will replace Circular No. 32/TT-BCT issued on November 5, 2009.

The new draft circular covers the following topics, among others:

  • Permitted formaldehyde and aromatic amine content in textile products
  • Sampling and test methods
  • Relevant quality management requirements

The draft circular applies to textile products that have been listed in Annex 1. It does not cover untreated yarn, untreated fabric, fabrics imported for processing export products, textile products in transit or stored in custom’s warehouses, textile products temporarily imported for re-export and types of products made from textile materials used in industrial production.

The regulation is effective beginning February 1, 2016.
