September 13, 2016

United States President Obama signed Senate Bill No. 764 Subtitle E - National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard into law on July 29, 2016.

The bill specifies that food packages should carry a text label, a symbol or an electronic code readable by smartphone to indicate whether the food contains genetically modified organisms, or GMOs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will have two years to establish rules for the bill.

The bill shall be in force beginning July 29, 2018.
