Silvia Lai, global technical leader for regulatory and chemistry at UL Solutions, will be presenting at Chemical Watch’s upcoming virtual event, Global Chemicals Management for Electronics 2023. She will discuss how electrical and electronic products must comply with a growing number of chemical regulations aimed at protecting consumers and the environment.
One of the most critical chemical regulations impacting electrical and electronic products is the European Union Restriction of Hazardous Chemicals Directive (EU RoHS). Other countries’ regulations tend to follow the RoHS Directive's model.
In her presentation, “RoHS Around the World: Examples from Certain Countries and Future Developments,” Lai will share insights on the following:
- An overview of RoHS regulations outside Europe, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Japan, as well as California in the United States
- The key differences among these countries’ regulatory requirements
- Tips for retailers and brands to proactively handle challenges as they navigate the complex regulatory landscape
“Staying on top of this evolving regulatory landscape is challenging, but chemicals management can be the key to remaining compliant with existing global chemical regulations or complying with emerging ones,” said Lai. “This can help retailers and manufacturers to avoid costly risk throughout their supply chain and damaging brand reputation.”
