STURDY Act is proposed in United States Congress

July 19, 2016

Illinois Representative Janice Schakowsky has introduced H.R. 5442 - STURDY Act in the United States House of Representatives.

The STURDY Act (Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth Act) directs the furniture standards committee to draft a standard that adequately protects children from furniture tip-over-related death or injury. If approved by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) the proposed standard could be adopted  as a mandatory standard, or, if the proposed standard is found to be unsatisfactory, the CPSC could develop its own standard to address the hazard.

The bill was introduced on June 9, 2016.
