SCCS Consults on Phenoxyethanol Use in Cosmetics

The European Commission's (EC) Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has concluded that phenoxyethanol is safe for use in cosmetic products at a maximum concentration of 1.0%.

The Commission had asked the SCCS for a safety assessment of the preservative because of concerns over potential effects on children.

The final date for comments is May 31, 2016.
