The Netherlands Officially Released an Amendment to the Packaging and Utensils Regulation

The Dutch government has officially released the ‘Amendment to the Packaging and Utensils Regulation.’

Among the changes are listed below:

  • Addition of new substances to the positive list of polymer production aids allowed for use in the manufacture of plastics (Chapter I)
  • Addition of substances authorized for use in the manufacture of paper and paperboard (Chapter II)
  • Addition of authorized coatings (Chapter X)
  • Removal of the mutual recognition clause in the Packaging and Utensils Regulation
  • Inclusion of new specifications/restrictions for certain substances already in the positive list
  • Revision and addition of new provisions on the use of zirconium, including a Specific Migration Limit (SML) of 2 mg/kg

It will take effect on January 1, 2017.
