MFDS Releases Regulation for the Safety of Cosmetics

KOREA - The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of Korea has released a regulation for the safety of cosmetics through Proposed Amendments to the "Regulation on Safety Standards of Cosmetics,” that include:

  • Amendment on the trace level of Xylene in hand nail and toe nail products (below 0.01%) [Annex 1]
  • Amendment on the conditions of use of the following sterilizing preservative ingredients and sunscreen ingredients in cosmetics [Annex 2: Cetylpyridiniumchloride (below 0.08%), Drometrizol (below 1.0%)]
  • Inclusion of the absence test for 'ingredients not allowed in cosmetics' in "human tissue cell culture medium" to secure their quality [Annex 3]
  • Clarification of the definition of "sample" in analytical tests of cosmetics in distribution [Annex 4]

The regulation is open for public consultation until November 21, 2015.
