Expansion of NOM Testing Services from UL Solutions

On March 3, 2022, the Mexico General Directorate of Standards (DGN) approved the expansion of UL Solutions’ Safety Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) to cover the Norma Oficial Mexicana (NOM) standard NOM-058-SCFI-2017.

Scope of NOM-058-SCFI-201

This Official Mexican Standard applies to artificial light sources for general illumination, including those for interior and exterior use and public street lighting. It applies to controllers of the following artificial light source technologies, including but not limited to:

• Gas discharge
• Light-emitting diodes (LEDs)
• Semiconductors or solid-state elements
• Other artificial light sources

NOM-058-SCFI-201 also applies to adapters for lamps, provided a specific Official Mexican Standard applicable to those controllers does not exist.

Benefit to UL Solutions’ customers

This MRA expansion allows UL Solutions’ laboratories under the MRA protocol to perform NOM-058-SCFI-2017 testing without having to send samples to a Mexico laboratory for testing. This will benefit manufacturers seeking to engage the strong retailer presence in Mexico.

In addition, UL Solutions’ new laboratory opened in Querétaro, México, in May 2022. Between this expansion of UL Solutions’ presence in Latin America and the MRA expansion, both local and global customers can utilize UL Solutions’ services around the NOM program and annual retesting requirements for export to the U.S. and other markets.
