UL Warns of Potentially Hazardous Hair Crimping Irons

NORTHBROOK, Ill., February 2, 2009 -- Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) is notifying consumers that Blueceramic Co. Ltd, Turboion, Model TURBO-D5, Hair Crimping Iron may pose a shock or fire hazard. This product does not comply with UL's safety requirements and is not eligible to bear the UL Mark.

Name of Product: Model TURBO-D5 Hair Crimping Iron

Number of Units: Unknown Quantity

Manufacturer: Blue-Ceramic Co. Ltd., Turboion in Korea

Date of Manufacture: April 2007 through July 2008

Hazard: Use of the crimping iron may result in excessive or uncontrolled overheating posing a potential fire hazard. The overheating may also cause degradation of the enclosure which could result in the exposure of live parts, posing a potential shock hazard.

Identification: On the product: The top side of the handle is marked:

A label on the underside of the top handle displays the UL Mark and states:

Model: TURBO-D5 Hair Crimping Iron.
Ratings: 120 V, 50 Hz, 60 Hz, 300W.
Manufactured: Blue Ceramic Co. Ltd. Turboion in Korea

MM: Represents Month,
WW: Represents Week.

What you should do: UL recommends that you stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase.
