UL Warns Manufacturers of Counterfeit Capacitors

NORTHBROOK, Ill., February 5, 2009 -- Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) is notifying manufacturers that capacitors marked (CT) bear a counterfeit UL Recognition Mark for the United States and Canada.

Please note that this counterfeit product is similar to a capacitor that is authorized to bear the UL Recognition Mark. Capacitors authorized to use the UL Recognition Mark are constructed with a green colored case. Capacitors with the counterfeit UL Recognition Mark are constructed with a yellow colored case. These capacitors have not been evaluated for safety by UL and are not eligible to bear the UL Recognition Mark.

Identification of Capacitor with Authorized UL Mark: On the Product: Capacitors authorized to use the UL Recognition Mark are constructed with a green colored case.

What You Should Do: UL recommends manufacturers stop purchasing and stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase. Manufacturers of UL certified products that have used this counterfeit device should report this to UL.
