Advisory Councils of UL Solutions are an active and critical part of a broader system that advances our safety mission.

The real-world experience and diverse perspectives of council members enable us to identify and pursue new safety challenges arising from product and technology innovations, as well as transformations in how products and environments are constructed, operated and consumed. This advice and guidance inform our scientific research, key initiatives and safety solutions.

Council members are volunteers who are passionate about public safety. Council membership is comprised of distinguished experts from a wide range of government agencies, consumer groups, scientific and educational institutions and industry organizations. To be appointed as a member of a Council is recognition of expertise, integrity and a commitment to furthering public safety.

Electrical Council

Formed in 1913, the Electrical Council advises us on opportunities to support and further safety with the electrical authority and inspection community. Membership includes authorities having jurisdiction, independent experts, federal government officials and insurance representatives.

Fire Council

For more than 100 years, the Fire Council has advised us on safety performance requirements for fire suppression equipment, fire resistance, building designs, fire and smoke detector equipment and building materials. Membership includes academic experts, building officials, federal government agencies, fire service members, independent fire safety experts and the insurance industry.

Field Advisory Council

Since 1976 the Field Advisory Council has provided expertise and advice to us for inspection and market surveillance programs aimed at maintaining the integrity of our services. Membership includes manufacturers, retailers, professional societies, trade groups, distributors, insurance, government and academia.

Security Council

Formed in 1921, the Security Council provides a forum to advise us on safety considerations relative to the development, use and application of security and property protection products. Membership includes representatives from the insurance industry, law enforcement, corporate security, federal government and academia.

Consumer Advisory Council

Formed in 1967, the Consumer Advisory Council guides us on safety considerations for consumer goods, as well as public education for the safe use of consumer products. Membership includes representatives of academia, insurance and government agencies, home economists, public safety officials, retailers and consumer media.

Energy Council

Formed in 2014, the Energy Council provides expertise and guidance on key safety issues for the energy industry. Membership includes constituents from research institutes and universities, regulators and authorities having jurisdiction, investors, insurance companies and service firms. In addition, representatives from throughout the energy value chain of generation, distribution, transmission and consumption are included in membership.

Health Sciences Council

Formed in 2012, the Health Sciences Council advises us on emerging safety needs in the health sciences field. Membership includes individuals representing academia, federal government agencies, professional societies, trade groups, consultants, insurance and other related categories.
