For component wiring, our Appliance Wiring Material (AWM) testing and certification program helps manufacturers demonstrate compliance to ANSI/UL 758, with 7,000+ AWM styles available by material, voltage, temperature, environment and flame ratings via Product iQ^®, which many OEMs use to source UL Recognized components.  

If your supply chain includes third‑party harness builders, the Wiring Harness Traceability Program monitors cable as it moves from manufacturer to harness producer and into final assembly, supported by a network of thousands of UL‑certified harness manufacturers.

Our Telecommunications Cable Testing service certifies and verifies communications cabling types and categories, including plenum (CMP), riser (CMR) and general purpose (CM), with certification to UL 444, the Standard for Communications Cables and performance verification or letter reports when needed. 

We also expand into optical fiber performance and reliability assessments against published standards, such as Telcordia GR‑series and IEC specifications, to help you validate designs across fiber and passive components.

For MV and HV systems, UL Solutions provides testing, inspection and certification (TIC) services covering type tests, pre‑qualification, factory inspections, commissioning support and diagnostics, with scope that includes MV cable from 5 kV to 35 kV, HVAC systems from 69 kV to 500 kV and HVDC up to 525 kV. 

We also offer laboratory testing and listing to Standards such as UL 1072 for MV cables, along with combination testing with IEC, IEEE, CSA, AEIC and ICEA as required.

As data centers scale to higher power densities and increasingly complex electrical architectures, manufacturers, operators and system integrators must address electrical, thermal and operational demands specific to these modern high-performance computing environments. For Cord sets and power-supply cords intended for use in the data center, we offer testing and certification to UL 817A, which builds on the principles of UL 817, the Standard for Cord Sets and Power-Supply Cords, but accounts for the higher power levels typically used in data centers. UL Solutions provides fire performance testing for cables and busways, including evaluation against international fire resistance and reaction‑to‑fire standards, as well as documentation such as type test reports and type examination certificates. 

For communications cables, UL also offers predictive modeling based on cone calorimetry to estimate performance for NFPA 262 plenum and UL 1666 riser tests, helping teams save time and cost during R&D.

The Wire and Cable Material Recognition Program evaluates compounds used in cable products against applicable standards and can help reduce re‑testing for certain certifications when UL Recognized components are used. Programs include QMTT2 polymeric materials for wire, cable and flexible lighting products, QMTM2 plenum cable compounds that support NFPA 262 composition analysis, and QMTN2 materials for AWM constructed to UL 758.

UL Solutions supports digitalization with CableBuilder for cable design, costing and quoting, including a Compliance Pre‑Check feature for select UL Standards and CableMES, a smart manufacturing execution system that links ERP and shop‑floor machines for real‑time production control.
