What we test and recognize 

We evaluate and certify AWM constructions across an evolving library of 7,000+ AWM styles defined by material, voltage, temperature, environmental exposure, flame and other ratings. Supplying and using UL Recognized wiring components can be a cost‑effective way to show compliance in end products. 

AWM electrical performance is established by construction and anticipated use. Typical attributes include voltage, temperature and flame ratings, plus environmental exposure. End product manufacturers frequently base sourcing specifications on individual AWM wire specifications and styles to align with internal policies and applicable standards. 

Standards and methods 

In the U.S., AWM is tested and certified to ANSI/UL 758. In Canada, AWM and equipment wire are tested and certified to CSA C22.2 No. 127 and CSA C22.2 No. 210. The specific tests performed depend on the construction and intended application of the product.

Wiring harness traceability 

If your AWM is processed into harnesses before final assembly, UL Solutions’ Wiring Harness Traceability Program helps monitor cables from the manufacturing plant to the harness producer and into final assembly. The program supports acceptance of third‑party manufactured harnesses and provides access to a global network of certified harness manufacturers.

For polymeric compounds used in AWM, the Wire and Cable Material Recognition Program evaluates materials against applicable standards. Using Recognized compounds can streamline later certifications and help communicate performance properties to customers through the Component Recognition Mark and Product iQ listings.
