Color consistency for the consumer experience

Color makes a strong impression and can shape the perception of your brand and overall product quality.

When consumers visit retail stores, brands’ shops, shopping malls or e-commerce environments, one thing that catches their attention is color. And because 80% of information reaches the brain through our eyes, color leaves a lasting impression, whether on a piece of clothing or a special product.

Our color matching program addresses challenges for textiles, apparel, footwear and hardlines

When brands and retailers consider the next season’s clothing and hard good lines, we know color is one of the first items they decide on. The perfect palette should be appealing and coherent across the store because inconsistencies can diminish the overall quality of a product line.

Customers want to see high quality and consistency when purchasing new clothes, and the perfect colors and color consistencies can help retailers and brands stand out from competitors. Additionally, In an omnichannel retail environment, it is important to provide equal product quality across different selling channels.

For these reasons, color consistency is an important feature to consider during the design stage to confirm technical limitations have been set from the initial phase, helping to avoid production delays.

Our color evaluation services

Our full-service, customizable color evaluation services help provide color consistency for apparel, accessories, footwear, home textiles, hard goods and packaging for manufacturers, retailers and brands so they can meet consumers’ expectations for color quality while protecting their products’ integrity.

Our state-of-the-art laboratories in North America and Asia employ color experts capable of completing assessments within 24 hours.

The Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test

Our color experts are assessed twice a year with the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test, one of the best known color vision tests and are required to achieve a superior rating.

Their proficiency, along with our technology and resources, enables UL Solutions to customize color programs that simplify the complex world of color matching for brands, retailers and private labels.

Color management evaluations and solutions

We provide expert color management solutions such as:

  • Electronic color evaluations for both lab dips and bulk production (shade band)
  • Physical color assessments for both lab dips and bulk production (shade band)
  • Color matching for coordinating trims and components
  • Design and aesthetic confirmations of product stylings (style confirmation)

Color assessments are recommended in the early stages of the supply chain to mitigate large scale disturbances later. However, we can provide a color evaluation at any time, including merchandising at retail.

Through our market surveillance program, we can survey products in the market, either in-store or online and evaluate areas of concern, such as color, to help retailers and brands protect the integrity of their products.
