Green Building Purchasing Services

Verifying products for use in sustainable programs.

Architect looking at green building plans.

Overview

We help architects, designers, specifiers and purchasers streamline product selection for green projects and purchasing. We also keep them informed through continuing education programs on major green building rating systems, such as LEED®. With tools like SPOT, our product database featuring more than 100,000 product families, we help streamline the verification process. SPOT® is searchable by sustainable program credits and contains a downloadable certificate of compliance, simplifying the paperwork required for compliance with LEED, WELL and other sustainable building programs.

Benefits

We help you identify products that meet the requirements of global programs such as LEED, WELL Building, Green Star and the International Green Construction Code (IgCC), which outline the types of testing and certification that products must undergo to qualify for use in sustainable buildings.

UL GREENGUARD® and ECOLOGO® certifications help you identify products that are recognized, referenced or preferred by more than 900 federal purchasers, retailers, green building rating tools and building codes for a variety of products around the world. We also provide Environmental Product Declaration (EPDs) Certification and Product Lens™ Certification, delivering additional transparency into products’ potential health and environmental impacts. These certifications are increasingly required in sustainable building specifications.

To meet the growing number of projects that are pursuing wellness building certifications, we introduced Wellness Certification for products, the first certification program that helps demonstrate a product’s compliance to Fitwel requirements and the WELL Building Standard. Products that are UL Wellness Certified are evaluated for criteria including product emissions, ergonomics, and chemical and material transparency. Our Wellness Certification requires each product to meet the applicable requirements listed in the standards, but we can also evaluate additional criteria by request.

We also offer advisory and continuing education training programs to help manufacturers, specifiers and purchasers better understand sustainability issues and green product specifications and maintain American Institute of Architects (AIA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and LEED Accredited Professional (AP) credentials. GREENGUARD Certification serves as a testament to a manufacturer’s commitment to the production of healthier products.
