The Westchester County New York Board of Legislators has unanimously approved the Children’s Product Safety Act introduced by Majority Leader Catherine Borgia, which was signed by the County Executive on May 14, 2015. The Act prohibits the sale of infant and children’s products containing the following toxic chemicals.
- Formaldehyde
- Benzene
- Lead
- Mercury
- Antimony
- Arsenic
- Cadmium
- Cobalt
This law is effective immediately and it will be enforced by the County Department of Consumer Protection. The sales prohibition will become effective one year after it became law. The Department is assigned to undertake a 12 month public education campaign to notify retailers of the ban, and effects of the chemicals.
