On May 24, 2026, Israel’s Ministry of Economy and Industry issued a notice outlining new requirements for plastic materials used in contact with food and beverages, introducing a comprehensive ban on the use of bisphenol A (BPA).
Under this measure, BPA may no longer be used in the manufacture of food contact products, including plastic packaging, lacquers and coatings, and internal coatings. The notice aligns Israel’s regulatory approach with European requirements and requires affected stakeholders to prepare for the phase-out of BPA-containing materials.
To facilitate compliance, authorities have provided an 18-month transition period, ending on Sept. 16, 2026. Products first placed on the market in Europe and Israel before that date may continue to be sold until existing inventories are exhausted.
