Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the regulator of India’s energy labeling program (BEE label), issued the notification in their website on Aug. 10, 2020, to inform all manufactures/permittees that:
- The validity of BEE labeling under voluntary program of washing machines, microwave ovens and chillers have been extended to Dec. 31, 2021
- The BEE labeling program of washing machines, microwave ovens and chillers will be made as mandatory on Jan. 1, 2022.
Below is a summary of the applicable standards of the BEE labeling program for each product.

It specifies the energy labelling requirement for chillers working on a vapor compression cycle, manufactured in India or imported for sale in India for central cooling and similar use. The schedule covers all types and sizes/capacity for rated voltage up to and including 250 V, 50 Hz AC, for single phase and up to and including 11 kV, 50 Hz AC for three phase power supply covered under the scope of IS 16590.

IEC 60456:2010
Clothes washing machines for household use – Methods for measuring the performance.
Note: The test procedure given in IEC 60456 shall apply until the revised version of IS 14155 is published.

It specifies the requirement for participating in the energy labeling program for all types of washing machines covered under the scope of IEC 60456 and IS 302-2-7 meant for household and similar use manufactured, imported and sold in India. |

Household microwave ovens – Methods for measuring performance |
It specifies the requirement for participating in the energy labeling program for all types of microwave ovens (including combination microwave ovens) meant for household or similar use, with or without grill or convection functions, manufactured, imported or sold in India. |
Manufacturers and permittees who supply these three products to India shall ensure that their products comply with the BEE labeling program before the enforcement date of Jan. 1, 2022.
