European Union Publishes Personal Protective Equipment Regulation

August 11, 2016

The European Journal published Regulation (EU) 2016/425 of the European Parliament and of the Council of March 9, 2016 on personal protective equipment (PPE) repealing Directive 89/686/EEC to help ensure that PPE placed on the market fulfill the requirements of Annex II of the same Regulation.

The new PPE Regulation came into force on April 20, 2016 and will become effective on April 21, 2018, except for articles related to "NOTIFICATION OF CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT BODIES" and to "the Committee procedures" which will have an effective date of October 21, 2016.

EC type examination certificates and approvals issued in accordance with Directive 89/686/EEC remain valid until April 21, 2023, unless they expire prior to the date.
