CPSC Issues Notice for the Flammability Standards for Children’s Sleepwear

UNITED STATES - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a notice to collect more information associated with the Standard for the Flammability of Children's Sleepwear: Sizes 0 Through 6X (16 CFR part 1615) and the Standard for the Flammability of Children's Sleepwear: Sizes 7 Through 14 (16 CFR part 1616).

The documents outline the following:

  • Subpart A – The Standard

o   Scope and application
o   Definitions
o   General requirements
o   Sampling and acceptance procedures
o   Test procedure
o   Labeling requirements

  • Subpart B—Rules and Regulations

o   Labeling, recordkeeping, retail display and guaranties
o   Method for establishment and use of alternate laundering procedures under section 5(c)(4)(ii) of the standard
o   Use of alternate apparatus, procedures, or criteria for testing under the standard
o   Use of alternate apparatus or procedures for tests for guaranty purposes

The notice is open for public consultation until January 25, 2016.
