Demonstrate safety through testing
Children’s furniture presents unique risks to children, such as entrapment, pinch, tip over. To help manufacturers minimize such risks, UL is an approved test lab under Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), in which testing is performed to the Codes of Federal Regulations (CFR) and associated American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards developed in response to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA).

All the standards are designed to rigorously evaluate the safety of children’s products.
The UL Stability Verified Program includes safety testing designed to evaluate products potential hazards, such as furniture tip-over.
We offer comprehensive flammability testing for fabrics and upholstered furnishings, conducted in accordance with nationally recognized standards. These tests investigate ignition, flame-spread and heat-release characteristics of furnishings.
Chemical and emissions testing
UL provides chemical testing for furniture, paints and varnishes, textiles for furniture and mattresses, required for global regulations such as Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemical Substances (REACH), Reduction of Hazardous Substances (ROHS), and California Proposition 65. We also offer testing for lead and phthalates as required under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).
