UL Warns of Potentially Hazardous Communications Cable (Release 14PN-08)

NORTHBROOK, IL- May 15, 2014 - The following is a notification from UL that the communications cable identified below may pose a fire hazard. The communications cable does not comply with UL's safety requirements and is not authorized to bear the UL Mark for the United States. 

Name of Product:  Communications Cable, Type CMP

Manufacturer:  Caleb Cable Industrial Ltd., Sheung Shui, N.T. Hong Kong

Hazard: This communications cable is missing the appropriate level of flame retardant. This may cause an increased risk of fire.

Identification:  

On the cable:  The surface of the cable jacket displays the following description:

CAT5E 350MHZ BARE COPPER CMP PLENUM UTP 4-PAIR 24AWG EIA/TIA-568-B.2-1 (UL) E334179.

On the packaging:  The packaging bears an unauthorized UL Mark and the following:
