A forward-thinking leader in the energy transition space, Joan Aymami has held senior roles across the renewables and environmental digital technologies sectors. His strong foundation in physics, management and executive leadership from world-renowned institutions have enabled Joan to build successful businesses, including founding two startups. As senior strategy manager at UL Solutions, he oversees strategy and development for Energy Transition and Electrification of Everything, driving initiatives that support decarbonization and the future of sustainable energy.
Transforming climate data into industry-wide environmental offerings
Joan’s visionary leadership has redefined how industries approach environmental risks. Recognizing an unmet need early in his career, Joan transformed his research in atmospheric physics into advanced commercial applications, enabling companies to navigate complex weather-related risks and create a bridge between environmental science and commercial viability. During this time, Joan founded Meteosim, offering meteorological and environmental services, and co-founded AWS Truepower, a leading energy engineering services and advisory firm. AWS Truepower was acquired by UL Solutions in 2016. His expertise has been crucial in bringing clean technology to industries previously struggling to meet environmental demands.
Innovating decarbonization solutions for a sustainable future
During the last two decades, the Energy Transition has focused on decarbonizing power generation with innovative technologies like wind and solar. As efforts ramp up, the transformation will require new and more storage solutions, such as large battery systems and hydrogen generation, to achieve a higher degree of grid integration, flexibility and resilience among many other technology innovations. As the lead strategist for the Energy Transition and Electrification of Everything initiative at UL Solutions, Joan supports clients in creating robust approaches for reducing carbon emissions and understanding opportunities and challenges in this evolving landscape. He helps companies design and implement effective energy transition plans by contributing to cutting-edge software tools and advisory services. His focus on expanding UL Solutions’ capabilities in clean energy — from renewable energy generation to grid integration or electrification — enables businesses to stay ahead of regulatory requirements and sustainability targets, positioning them for long-term success.
