Safety standards for audio/video, information and communication technology (AV and ICT) equipment are founded on the latest hazard-based principles and requirements that emphasize safer design from the earliest stages of product development. This course helps AV and ICT equipment manufacturers gain the expertise they need to design and comply with the latest requirements associated with IEC 62368-1.
This course comprises two training components:
- An introductory online e-learning module
- Two-day in-person instructor-led training session.
The e-learning module covers the general requirements and principles of safety. It is to be completed in advance, enabling participants to maximize their time with our UL Solutions expert during the instructor-led session, where the requirements of the standard are covered in further detail.
Both the pre-work eLearning introductory module and the instructor-led session must be completed to qualify for the continuing education units (CEUs) credits associated with this course.
Online pre-work:
- Introduction to IEC 62368-1
- Principles of hazard-based safety applied in this standard (Clause 0)
- Defining persons, energy sources, and safeguards (Clause 0)
- Introduction to general requirements (Clause 4)
Day 1:
- Review of online pre-work
- General requirements (Clause 4)
- Electrically-caused injury (Clause 5)
Day 2:
- Electrically-caused fire (Clause 6)
- Injury caused by hazardous substances (Clause 7)
- Batteries and their protection circuits (Annex M)
- Mechanically-caused injury (Clause 8)
- Thermal burn injury (Clause 9)
- Radiation energy safeguards (Clause 10)
- Review of critical annexes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the various types of energy sources addressed by the standard and how they are classified
- Prescribe safeguards to protect against various energy sources
- Provide guidance on the application of and requirements for safeguards
- Specify types of tests and testing guidelines necessary to verify that safeguard designs are acceptable
- Recognize and use appropriate safety-related markings, instructions and instructional safeguards
- Describe the safeguards against acoustic energy sources
