MARIETTA, Ga., November 8, 2017– UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science leader, today announced the launch of SPOT add-in for REVIT®. This free tool gives AutoDesk® Revit® users the ability to access product data from SPOT and assign it directly to their project. This will make it much easier for Revit users to find, select and insert products into their building projects that have reduced human health and/or environmental impacts. The Revit add-in also provides greater accuracy and streamlined reporting for green building rating schemes such as US Green Building Council’s LEED Certification, WELL Building, Green Globes and more. The Revit add-in is available to download on ul.com/spot and is now available in the AutoDesk app store.
Revit is a well-known tool in the rapidly expanding Building Information Modeling (BIM) marketplace. Until now, the availability of information regarding the health or environmental impacts of the products used in BIM tools has been missing. The new SPOT add-in for Revit will, for the first time, offer users the ability to fill that gap with credible product information from a trusted source quickly.
Since its launch in 2016, UL’s SPOT product database has quickly grown to be a credible resource for architects, designers and specifiers to identify sustainable products. Features of the Revit add-in include Dynamic TAG, enhanced filtering and quantity takeoff reports.
“We’ve been listening to the needs of the design community and are pleased to offer them a unique digital solution that will enhance their product selections for green building design projects,” said Alberto Uggetti, vice president and general manager, UL Environment. “SPOT product database features over 50,000 credible products, and now with the Revit add-in, users can streamline product selections by entering manufacturer product data directly into the project workflow.
In addition, the General Services Administration (GSA) now links UL SPOT on sftool.gov as an additional tool to help purchasers support responsible supply chains. UL has added a new feature to the SPOT database that helps users identify products made by manufacturers that have policies in place to protect against human rights abuses in their supply chain.
SPOT is also now live on the Dept. of Defense’s Sustainable Procurement Program site, one of the primary resources for DOD purchasers buying sustainable products.
SPOT app for Revit is part of a digital suite of tools from UL Environment that’s aimed to help architects and designers facilitate the selection of sustainable products.
The Revit® add-in is currently available for download on ul.com/spot and the AutoDesk add-in store.
