Germany Proposes to Introduce “Social Label” for Textiles

Germany’s Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has initiated a project for the introduction of a “social label” for textiles due to growing health and environmental concerns.

The aim of the Ministry is to introduce a quality label covering the entire clothing supply chain. Criteria for such a label currently being discussed includes compliance with social standards – in particular working conditions and fair pay of the workers – as well as environmental standards and human rights standards.
