Continuing an annual tradition, safety science company UL Solutions sent a delegation of executives and experts to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Conference and Expo to deliver presentations, promote education, highlight safety guidelines and foster connections among customers, the fire safety community and other stakeholders.

Throughout the event, held on June 22–24 in Las Vegas, UL Solutions representatives were available to answer questions, share expertise and provide details on the company’s offerings.

On June 22, UL Solutions announced its new services to help battery energy storage manufacturers and project owners demonstrate how fire and explosion risks have been evaluated under applicable NFPA requirements. These new evaluation services help companies address alignment with NFPA 855 (Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems) along with protection and prevention requirements addressed in NFPA 68 (deflagration venting) and NFPA 69 (explosion prevention systems).

During a June 23 ceremony, UL Solutions presented its inaugural Code Authority® Leadership Awards. These accolades honor individuals who advance code adoption and enforcement, mentor the next generation of safety experts and help jurisdictions address emerging technologies and evolving risks.

“Code authorities help turn safety requirements into real-world protection for communities,” said Alberto Uggetti, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at UL Solutions. He praised the award recipients for using their expertise and judgment to “strengthen public safety every day.”

The honorees were Tonya Hoover (Lifetime Impact on Public Safety Award), Michael Desrochers (Excellence in Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer Award) and Tina Parker (Rising Leader in Code Development Award).

During the conference, UL Solutions leaders delivered four presentations:

Addressing Compliance Challenges with Data Centers. This session, which drew more than 500 attendees, discussed how data center expansion is impacting electrical infrastructure and creating new safety, security and compliance challenges.

Advancing Fire Safety in Data Centers: Large-Scale Fire Testing of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This presentation was on BESS safety, addressing thermal runaway risks, fire propagation concerns and recent updates to standards to support safer deployment.

Understanding Industry Standards for Power Control Systems (PCS) offered insights on some of the essential needs of healthcare facilities.

Advancing Cable Integrity for Life Safety Systems provided details on codes for communication systems used during emergencies.

The NFPA event drew more than 8,600 attendees from 88 countries. The conference featured more than 130 live education sessions, workshops and on-demand educational opportunities, and the expo included more than 420 exhibitors.

The next NFPA Conference and Expo will be held in San Antonio on June 14–16, 2027.
