July 15, 2026
On May 26, 2026, a newly enacted state law, as signed by Governor Tim Walz, approved a change to Minnesota’s chemical reporting requirements, which narrows the scope of products subject to the state’s per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) reporting requirement.
The update amends Amara’s Law, which aims to phase out nonessential uses of PFAS, or “forever chemicals.” Manufacturers must now report only products made after July 1, 2023, if they are sold or distributed in Minnesota and contain intentionally added PFAS.
Previously, all products required reporting regardless of manufacturing date, increasing compliance burdens, especially for older or legacy goods. The change focuses regulation on newer products while maintaining the law’s goals.
Reporting deadlines remain unchanged: initial reports are due September 15, 2026, with a possible extension to December 14, 2026, for approved requests.
