Effective Oct. 15, 2025, Dechlorane Plus has been added to Part A, Annex I of the European Union’s Regulation on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) (Regulation (EU) 2019/1021).
This means that the manufacturing, placing on the market and use of Dechlorane Plus — whether on its own, in mixtures or in articles — shall be restricted to the following limits:
- Until April 15, 2028: Below or equal to 0.1% by weight (1,000 milligram per kilogram (mg/kg))
- After April 15, 2028: Below or equal to 0.0001% by weight (1 mg/kg)
The following derogations shall be applied for Dechlorane Plus:
- Until Feb. 26, 2030:
- In aerospace, space and defense applications
- In medical imaging applications
- Radiotherapy devices and installations
- Until Dec. 31, 2043, or until the end of their service life (whichever comes earlier):
- Spare parts for, and the repair of, any of the following, where Dechlorane Plus was initially used in their production:
- Land-based motor vehicles
- Stationary industrial machines for use in agriculture, forestry and construction
- Marine, garden, forestry and outdoor power equipment other than that covered under (ii)
- Aerospace, space and defense applications
- Instruments for analysis, measurements, control, monitoring, testing, production and inspection
- Spare parts for medical devices and their accessories and in vitro diagnostic medical devices and their accessories where Dechlorane Plus was initially used in their production until the end of their service life
- Spare parts for, and the repair of, any of the following, where Dechlorane Plus was initially used in their production:
