BSMI Enforces Mandatory Inspections for Children’s Raincoats

October 16, 2015

TAIWAN – The Taiwan Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) has announced the implementation of mandatory inspection of domestically produced or imported children’s raincoats.

Requirements would be on the CNS 15503 standard (General Requirements for Safety of Children’s Products) and CNS 15291 standard (Safety of Children’s Clothing; Cords and Draw-strings Specifications).

The measure is in response to last year’s inspections, which showed that various types of children’s raincoats contained excessive levels of heavy metals, plasticizers or lacked proper Chinese language labeling.

The mandatory checks went into effect beginning September 1, 2015.
