UL Standards continue to be the industry benchmark for commercial displays. Previously, displays have undergone many innovations including embedded computers, motion and LED lighting. In addition, displays are now sometimes developed and manufactured for a shorter life cycle to keep retail shelves fresh and exciting.
In line with the recommendations of stakeholders and members of the Standards Technical Panels, a new Standard combines UL 65 Standard for Wired Cabinets and UL 962, the Standard for Household and Commercial Furnishings into a single, streamlined standard with modernized requirements and requirements for temporary displays. The result is the creation of UL 970, the Standard for Retail Fixtures and Merchandise Displays, which was published in 2020 and provides updated requirements for commercial displays, showcases and temporary displays.
With the aim of helping the industry during the transition stage, UL has developed a practical standard reference guide that includes the scope of UL 970, how it impacts existing UL files and new products, identifies the main differences between UL 970 and UL 65/UL 962, and key points to consider.
