Underwriters Laboratories sponsors 2nd annual community fire safety day at Suffolk County Sports Park, home of Long Island Ducks baseball

July 14, 2010

Melville, NY - July 14, 2010 - Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a recognized global leader in fire research, standards development and the testing and certification of products, has once again joined with the Long Island Ducks baseball team to promote a community Fire Safety Day.   The event will be held at Suffolk County Sports Park, home of the Long Island Ducks baseball on Thursday, July 15, 2010.  The Long Island Ducks are a Long Island-based independent, minor league professional baseball team and a staple of the Long Island, New York community.

"Partnering with the Long Island Ducks is a great way for UL to help promote fire safety not only from a global perspective, but also at the local level," says Robert Tockarshewsky, Global Marketing Director, Life Safety, Security & Building Materials. "Before and during the game, Long Island Ducks fans will have the opportunity to learn important fire safety tips about how to keep their homes and themselves safe from every day fire hazards."

In addition to UL volunteers manning tables inside and outside the stadium, distributing fire safety literature to attending fans, UL's partner, Radio Disney, will broadcast live before the game promoting a joint "I Am Safety Smart" theme.  The local Central Islip Fire Department will be on hand displaying local fire apparatus. Safety literature on a variety of topics ranging from smoke detectors to CO detection, to the need for a home fire escape plan will be available to all fans, and the first 1,500 fans entering the ballpark will receive Ducks three-ring binders.
