UL Solutions Announces Appointment of Elisabeth Tørstad and George A. Williams to Board of Directors

The appointments deepen the board’s technical and industry expertise and strengthen its corporate leadership capacity.

NORTHBROOK, ILLINOIS – November 10, 2023 — UL Solutions Inc., a global leader in applied safety science, today announced the appointment of two additional members to its board of directors, Elisabeth Tørstad, CEO of professional services firm Asplan Viak AS, and George A. Williams, president and CEO of PMI Energy Solutions, increasing the number of directors to 13.

The appointments, effective Nov. 10, deepen the board’s technical and industry expertise and strengthen its corporate leadership capacity. Both new members also serve on the board of trustees of UL Research Institutes, the nonprofit safety science research organization within the UL enterprise

Elisabeth Tørstad

Tørstad brings deep scientific and technical knowledge to the board, in addition to her extensive leadership experience. She has served as the CEO of Asplan Viak AS, a professional services firm in the architecture, property development and public infrastructure sectors, since 2019, and has been a member of the board of trustees of UL Research Institutes since 2020. She joined Asplan Viak from DNV Group, a classification society and consulting organization, where she served in various senior leadership positions, including CEO of DNV GL Digital Solutions and CEO of DNV GL – Oil & Gas. Tørstad is also a member of the board of directors of Aker Solutions ASA and the deputy chair of the governing board of Peace Research Institutes Oslo.

George A. Williams

Williams has extensive experience in the energy and utility industries, including extended tenures in corporate leadership roles. He has served as president and CEO of PMI Energy Solutions, LLC, an electrical construction, maintenance and technical services contracting company, since 2011 and has been a member of the board of trustees of UL Research Institutes since 2008. He currently chairs the UL Research Institutes board of trustees’ Governance and Compensation Committee. Prior to joining PMI Energy, Williams served as chief operating officer of El Paso Electric Company, a public utility company, senior vice president of operations for Commonwealth Edison Company, an energy provider, and site vice president for Entergy Nuclear South, a nuclear plant, as well as various other leadership roles. Williams is also a member of the board of directors of The Will Group.
