UL Recognizes Samsung Electronics for Achievement of Joint ECOLOGO/EPEAT Certification and Registration for Galaxy S8 / Galaxy S8+

September 5, 2017

MARIETTA, Ga., September 5, 2017 – UL Environment, a division of UL (Underwriters Laboratories), and Samsung Electronics celebrated Samsung’s products joint ECOLOGO/EPEAT Certification and Registration in a ceremony that took place during the U.S. Samsung and UL annual meeting on August 31, 2017.

President and chief executive officer of UL, Keith Williams presented YH Eom, executive vice president & deputy head, Samsung Electronics North America, with a plaque signifying the achievement of UL ECOLOGO Gold Certification to the UL 110 Standard for Sustainability for Mobile Phones for their Galaxy S8/8+ phones and their inclusion in the EPEAT registry.  Samsung was the first company to achieve ECOLOGO Certification to ANSI/UL 110 for mobile phones, and among the first companies to appear in the EPEAT Registry for Mobile Phones, which opened July 31, 2017.

The joint ECOLOGO/EPEAT Program provides a new way for manufacturers to participate in the EPEAT registry. Manufacturers whose products achieve certification to ANSI/UL 110, which was published on March 24, 2017, are eligible to appear in the EPEAT registry through a streamlined acceptance program. This offers UL customers a unique opportunity to leverage their mobile phone certifications to ANSI/UL110 in the EPEAT continuous verification process. To achieve this joint certification and registration, Samsung demonstrated that their Galaxy 8/8+ phones met sustainability criteria that address all stages of a product’s life cycle, from design and manufacture to use and end of life.

“We are pleased to recognize Samsung’s continued pursuit of sustainability for their mobile phone products,” said Keith Williams, president and chief executive officer of UL. “Their achievement of joint ECOLOGO/EPEAT Certification and registration demonstrate a continued dedication to bringing sustainable products to an expanded purchasing audience.”

“We are honored to be recognized for our efforts in sustainability as we continue to make positive strides in helping our environment,” said YH Eom, executive vice president & deputy head, Samsung Electronics North America. “Sustainable innovation is a strong focus of the Samsung brand, and this achievement supports our commitment to designing environmentally friendly and technologically advanced products for our customers.”

Samsung’s ANSI/ UL 110 certified phones are featured in SPOT, UL’s sustainable product database and in the EPEAT Registry.
