Mexico City, August 5, 2019 – UL, a leading global safety science organization, announced that it was selected to perform a technical evaluation on the proposed El Llano photovoltaic (PV) solar plant, a 375-MWp facility in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Cited for deep experience in the development and construction of renewable energy plants and the ability to perform highly technical audits, UL was chosen as the independent engineer advisor by Bancomext, Natixis and Societé Générale, the financial institutions backing the El Llano facility.  UL performed  assessments on vital aspects of the project including technology, engineering and design evaluations, long-range power generation estimates and financial modeling as well as interconnection contracts and environmental and social permits reviews.

To be developed by Paris, France-based Neoen, one of the world’s leading and fastest growing independent producers of renewable energy, the El Llano PV solar plant will be one of the largest in the company’s portfolio.  Information from the evaluation contributed to Neoen receiving the financial support needed to move the project to its next stage of development.

A key engagement for UL’s Mexico-based renewable energy team, the El Llano PV solar plant project demonstrates UL’s expanded capabilities and ability to successfully partner with local engineers to better support renewable energy project development in the region.

“Working to solve critical challenges and mitigate risk associated with large-scale renewable energy projects, UL is proud to offer our photovoltaic solar project expertise in the financial close of the El Llano development and its contributions to helping Mexico achieve a clean energy future,” said Cristian Algar, director of Due Diligence Services, EMEALA at UL.
