UL Environment Recognized by the US EPA as a TSCA Title VI Third-Party Certifier

June 20, 2017

MARIETTA, Ga., June 20, 2017 – UL Environment, a division of UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science leader, announced official recognition as a TSCA Title VI Third-Party Certifier (TPC) under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products final rule.

TSCA Title VI requires producers of hardwood plywood, particle board, medium density fiberboard, and thin medium density fiberboard sold into the United States to use an EPA recognized TPC and label products as compliant with the regulation.

UL Environment’s ISO 17025 accredited laboratories in Guangzhou, China and Marietta, Ga. are approved to perform the tests required to achieve compliance with the regulation. UL Environment is also a recognized TPC for the California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulation for formaldehyde emissions, upon which the EPA standard is based.

“UL Environment is a recognized global authority on indoor air quality and product emissions testing,” said Alberto Uggetti, vice president and general manager, UL Environment. “We are pleased to be among the first group of approved TPC laboratories and look forward to using our more than 25 years of chemical knowledge and research to help manufacturers and retailers understand how to take ‘reasonable prudent precautions’ to mitigate risk in their supply chain.”

With a proven history of testing and product evaluations, UL can help companies evaluate, monitor and improve their composite wood supply chain partners. By working with UL to take ‘reasonable prudent precautions,’ as required by the EPA, companies can better understand the quality of the vendors they rely on. UL’s global experts and fully equipped testing facilities can assist companies by providing a complete evaluation of all vendors.
