UL Announces Agreement to Add EPDItaly Products to SPOT Online Database

September 27, 2018

MILAN, September 27th, 2018 — UL’s Environment division today announced that Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) certified by EPDItaly will be featured on UL’s SPOT™ database, the world’s largest, credible web-based source for product sustainability information.

SPOT features nearly 100,000 credible green products families and facilitates their selection for the design community, professional purchasers and others seeking sustainable products. EPDs increasingly are becoming crucial information source for the building industry and are in high demand by architects and designers who need to specify products with sustainable qualities and understand a product’s environmental impact, and contribute to LEED, BREEAM, Green Globes and other rating systems.

“Following the already announced Mutual Recognition Agreement for EPDs, today we are pleased to announce that UL and EPDItaly have reached another milestone by including EPDs by EPDItaly in our global sustainable product data base SPOT,” said Giuseppe Barisan, general manager for UL’s Environment division in Europe. “The addition of these products to SPOT will provide worldwide users with the opportunity to source from a wider offering of products, including Italian excellence in building and construction materials. This also reinforces the commitment of UL to support local manufacturers and users in their sustainability endeavor, in line with the strategy that led to the opening of UL’s state of the art lab for indoor air quality in Italy.”

Recently the U.S. Green Building Council recognized UL as a data partner and endorsed UL’s SPOT database as a tool that LEED Accredited Professionals and other project team members can use to find products that contribute to credits within LEED v4. Products certified by EPDItaly in SPOT will be searchable by sustainable credits and feature documentation that can be included in LEED project submittals. Certified products will also be searchable in UL’s SPOT add-in for AutoDesk® Revit®, autoCAD and SketchUp.

“The collaboration activated by EPDItaly, the Italian EPD program operator, with UL,” ICMQ General Manager Lorenzo Orsenigo observes, “will allow Italian manufacturers in the construction sector to introduce in the American market their products with the EPDItaly certification. Through the presence on the SPOT data base, one of the most authoritative American databases of information and dissemination about sustainable economy, Italian excellence in green products will be showcased and there is a unique opportunity to promote Made in Italy internationally.”

SPOT database is powered by UL, a leading safety science company and developer of globally-recognized sustainability standards with a 120+ year history. In addition to the SPOT add-ins for BIM software, UL is developing tools such as expanded listings to enhance the ability to find and select healthier, more sustainable products. About EPDItaly

EPDItaly is Italian Program Operator in which companies can publish their EPDs, obtaining visibility at national and international level and communicating to the market, in a clear and transparent way, the environmental impacts of a product or a service.
