UL and DGN Sign Collaboration Agreement on Standards

NORTHBROOK, Ill., December 19, 2017 – UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) and the Dirección General de Normas (DGN) of the Ministry of Economy in Mexico are pleased to announce the signing of a Collaboration Agreement between their organizations.

The Agreement, signed in November 2017, is intended to advance standards solutions that improve safety, security, and well-being while meeting the needs of industry for greater North American harmonization of standards.

This agreement enables DGN to leverage and reference UL standards within Mexico and permits both organizations to collaborate on joint standards development to satisfy the requirements of Mexico, the United States and/or Canada using a single development process.

“UL is delighted to enter into this important agreement with DGN.  It signifies a strengthening of our relationship by providing a framework for greater standards collaboration between our organizations,” said Phil Piqueira, Vice President, UL Global Standards.  “Collaboration with Mexico is another means for accomplishing UL’s safety mission while meeting the needs of stakeholders”.

“DGN is pleased to complete this collaboration agreement with UL.  It provides the opportunity for our two organizations to work more closely together on standards initiatives of importance to Mexico,” said Jesús Lucatero, Deputy General Director of Operation at DGN.  “We are hopeful that this agreement will help facilitate greater regional harmonization in standards in North America.”

DGN is a General Directorate within the Ministry of Economy in Mexico. It is a public entity in charge of the regulation and standardization activities in the country. DGN represents Mexico at international standardization organizations such as ISO, IEC and Codex Alimentarius, which serve as a basis for the development of national standards (NMXs) and technical regulations (NOMs).
